Spencer Quantum Turns To HVO To Decarbonise Customer Projects

by spencerquantumltd / Saturday, 31 August 2024 / Published in Land-Based Services

Spencer Quantum, a leading provider of specialist geo technical and land-based services to the highways, construction, environmental and utilities sectors, is set to deliver a huge environmental boost to customer projects by slashing carbon emissions from its plant and machinery by up to 90%.

Around 100 items of plant will switch from traditional diesel to renewable hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO) in a move that can reduce carbon emissions by 90% and help its customers decarbonise their projects.

Spencer Quantum’s switch to HVO is expected to save up to 325 tonnes of CO2 a year. C

harlie Jukes, Business Development Director of Spencer Quantum, said: “We are always exploring ways in which we can reduce our emissions and our environmental impact, while adding value to our customer projects by helping them also meet ESG and carbon reduction targets.

“Switching our entire fleet of diesel-powered plant, tools and machinery exclusively to HVO will deliver huge benefits immediately, both for us and our customers.

“As one of the first in our industry to make this investment and commitment to sustainability, it will also provide Spencer Quantum with a competitive advantage and is a key factor when we are tendering for future work.” Spencer Quantum will have an 8,000 litre main tank for HVO fuel, as well as 1,000 litre sub tanks across its operational network.

Charlie added: “It is actually a drop-in replacement for diesel – you just fill the tank and you are ready to go. It is very simple but can have such a big impact, that’s the beauty of it.

“Our clients will be able to see how much we can reduce the carbon footprint of their projects. This is a major innovation in our decarbonisation strategy and we are sure both existing and new clients will see the immediate benefits for their sustainability targets.”

Spencer Quantum has more than 30 years of experience in providing specialist services to local authorities and blue-chip clients and understands the increasing need for green, low-carbon solutions. The HVO tanks have been supplied by Green for Wales, which will also provide the fuel.

HVO fuel is made from biomass, including used cooking oils and waste from food manufacturing. It can be used in existing engines without the need for conversion and is being utilised by many transport and logistics companies with large road fleets.
